Summer in The Point
A summer in Ireland often gives us much to complain about. We look forward to the summer with much anticipation, hope and, in many peoples cases, prayers. This year, whether it is the Universe, God or just downright good luck, we hope the summer will deliver.
With high temperatures, blazing sunshine and beautiful long evenings, there really is no better place to be, live and work than this area - County Down, Northern Ireland. A stroll around the promenade any of the evenings reveals that the natives are not the only ones who will take advantage of the surroundings. In previous years, we talked to people from Newry, Belfast, Tyrone, Scotland, England and the USA who were enjoying their time in our town and promised to spread the word to their friends and family.
There really is no better experience than sitting down to a cool refreshment in front of the Whistledown on a warm evening. The backdrop of a clear blue sky throws out the magnificence of the Cooley and Mourne Mountains as our eyes focus on where they gently meet at the gateway to the Irish Sea. In a quiet moment of thoughtless daydreaming, I thought what a wonderful idea if I could could walk or drive directly across...A BRIDGE...that awoke me from my thoughts swiftly and I returned to my refreshment.
It really is amazing the activity that is happening on Carlingford Lough when you have the time to take a proper look - from water sports to yachts, mussell boats to ferries.
Warrenpoint is famous for many things but there is without doubt one thing that attracts people into their cars to take the drive down to Warrenpoint on a warm summers evening - Ice Cream . We would love to know the stats on this - how many ice creams were sold? How many gallons of milk did it take? There is a fine tradition of ice cream in Warrenpoint by The Genoa but now visitors to Warrenpoint have ice cream options with the recent arrival of Timoneys. Ice Cream heaven perhaps? Which is your favourite?
Warrenpoint Park is always simply stunning in the summer and is a beautiful haven of tranquility and calm in the midst of a busy town centre. We would urge you all to make a weekly habit - at any anytime of year - to experience the solace and witness the beautiful changes in colour as the seasons in the year quietly drift by. We must pay tribute to the park keepers who exceute their duties with much professionalism and skill.
