Wake The Giant

This is a superb development! An exciting new summer festival is being launched in Warrenpoint in 2016.

Wake the Giant will be held in Warrenpoint on the 20 and 21 August 2016.

The theme of the festival will be based around the rich heritage of our myths and legends around Warrenpoint and the Carlingford Lough area. This festival will be brought by Newry, Mourne & Down District Council.

Wake the Giant will compliment an already busy social calendar of events in our area with the Blues Festival, Maidens of the Mourne and Fiddlers Green.

The more the merrier we say!

The more events and activities that we have, the more there is for us to enjoy and to entice visitors into our town and area.

Wake the Giant is set to have street based activities and entertainment, parades, and a celebration of local foods, arts and crafts. The historical heritage of our town and area will be at the heart of the festival. Many of us as children learned of the tales of Finn McCool, Cloughmor and the myths and legends of the Cooley Peninsula and Carlingford Lough.

It is often said that this area was the inspiration for the Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis.

We hope that the spirit of our local legends come alive in Warrenpoint this summer.

If Warrenpoint gets some decent weather this summer the giant will be woken.
