Warrenpoint Community Centre
There has been a very active social media campaign over the last number of days to rally support for a much needed community centre for Warrenpoint since it was announced officially that the Police Station will be closed.
This has led to many lobbying our local councillors to back the call for a community centre at this location as it is ideally placed in the centre of the town.
An online petition has garnered over 300 signatures (at the time of writing).
A number of the local representatives have responded to the petition.
Michael Carr, SDLP Councillor, states that the Police Station site would make an ideal site for a community hub.
Mickey Ruane, Sinn Fein Chairperson of Newry, Mourne & Down Council, confirms his support for a community centre but not at the Police Station site.
