To mark the bicentenary of the writing of the American national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner, and its links to General Ross and Rostrevor, a spectacular weekend of events will be hosted on September 13th and 14th.
These will include a lough-based firework display re-enacting the bombardment of Fort McHenry (which inspired the writing of the Star Spangled Banner); the mounting of a 40ft by 30ft replica of the original star spangled banner at the Ross Monument; a flotilla on the lough; live American themed music in the square; marching bands; American themed food and music nights at local pubs and restaurants; family fun attractions and an exhibition on General Ross.
The flag has currently been hoisted at the Presbyterian Church, Rostrevor as can be seen in the picture above.
