This week has seen the worst of humanity with the horrific pictures of the fate of a young child. Aylan Kurdi died along with his brother and mother as they tried to escape from Syria to Greece in a rubber boat. The pictures were simply heartbreaking.
Social media has changed things forever as it gives ordinary people a chance to speak out and speak out they have.
Many have expressed their frustration at the slow reaction of governments to this issue.
Local communities all across Ireland have NOT been slow to react!
This area is doing it's bit and we urge you to do what you can - whether that is donating money or supplies!
At the end of September, this area will host the annual Famine Commemoration. People had to leave this country on boats to foreign lands to escape starvation, uncertain if they would get there and what they would face. That is only 170 years ago in our history!
